“I went into a McDonald’s yesterday and said, ‘I’d like some fries.’ The girl at the counter said, ‘Would you like some fries with that?’” – Jay Leno
I think Jay Leno is onto something with the above statement. People just don’t listen anymore. Why is that? You order one thing and get another. You call a company and ask for a certain person, and you get an entirely different extension. Not a good way to run a business!
I was chatting with a client of mine recently and we were both wondering where customer service has gone. I defended it and told her that certainly it wasn’t gone, sleeping perhaps, but certainly not gone.
Is it gone? Are we so into ourselves that we have all forgotten about the other person? Are we rushing through life so fast that we don’t see who we are stepping on in our race to get wherever we’re going?
I think we all need to take a step back for a moment and take a look around. Look at your company. Are you providing the best possible customer service to your clients and staff? I’m not just talking about external customer service, but internal customer service as well. How you treat your staff is just as important as how you treat your clients.
Good customer service is really easy. If you treat your customers and staff well, then you will be treated well back. If you would like people to give you kindness and respect, then treat someone else with kindness and respect.
Treating others like you want to be treated is the key to business. So treat your clients, employees and even your competitors with honesty, integrity, warmth and love and watch your business soar to the top.
